The Tied-up House

One of the major components we inspect are the structure of the home. We take a macro and micro approach — looking at the larger picture and then at the particulars. We look for clues and then put them together to make a recommendation.

We recently inspected a home with an extension at the rear that was slightly tilted away from the main structure. This was the first clue that there may be a structural issue. Inside, we noted that the floors were tilted as well. Though the crawlspace door was sealed shut, we had partial view of the crawlspace from the basement. We saw plastic ropes supporting the joist!

We differed to a civil engineer to make the necessary recommendations for repair.
